Automated Parts Storage β€” Southern California

Kardex Vertical
Storage Systems

Your parts room is costing you more floor space, more search time, and more picking errors than it should. Kardex vertical carousels and vertical lift modules bring parts directly to the operator β€” shrinking your footprint by up to 80% and eliminating the wasted motion that's buried in your labor cost. We serve Southern California from the Inland Empire to San Diego.

The Business Case

What Kardex Does
for Your Operation

Traditional parts storage β€” shelving, bin systems, static rack β€” requires operators to walk to the part. Kardex inverts that relationship: the part comes to the operator at a fixed ergonomic access point. That single change eliminates search time, reduces picking errors, and compresses the floor space your parts room consumes into a fraction of its current footprint.

80%
Floor Space Reduction
16 standard file cabinets or shelving units occupy ~216 sq ft. A Kardex vertical carousel with equivalent capacity uses ~65 sq ft.
2–3x
Faster Retrieval
Kardex Megamat vertical carousels deliver stored items to the operator 2–3x faster than walking to static shelving or bin systems.
167%
More Storage Capacity
Kardex Megamat vertical carousels provide up to 167% more storage capacity versus conventional shelving in the same footprint.
Product Line

Kardex Systems We
Bring to Southern California

Kardex produces multiple automated storage and retrieval systems designed for different applications and inventory profiles. The right system depends on your SKU count, item sizes, pick frequency, and available ceiling height.

Vertical Carousel

Kardex Megamat

A series of rotating shelves organized vertically. When a location is selected, the carousel rotates to bring that carrier to the ergonomic access opening at operator height. Best for MRO parts, tooling, spare parts, and high-volume small parts storage. The Megamat 350 handles a wide range of applications from manufacturing to distribution. Optional pick-to-light and inventory management software integration available.

Vertical Lift Module

Kardex Shuttle

An enclosed system with trays stored on both sides of a central extractor. When a tray is called, the extractor retrieves it and delivers it to the access window. Vertical lift modules maximize height and are ideal for facilities with 20–40 foot ceilings β€” common in Inland Empire distribution centers. The Kardex Shuttle VLM compresses dense parts inventory into a single tower with a minimal floor footprint.

Horizontal Carousel

Kardex Horizontal

Bins rotate horizontally on an oval track to bring stored items directly to the operator. Designed for high-speed picking of small parts and fast-moving items. Often deployed in multiples β€” two or three carousels working together in a batch-picking configuration β€” to keep the operator continuously productive while carousels retrieve the next pick.

Software

Kardex Power Pick System

Warehouse management software designed specifically for Kardex hardware. Covers inventory control, multi-order batch picking, pick-to-light and put-to-light guidance, WMS and ERP integration, and real-time inventory reporting. Eliminates manual counting and dramatically reduces picking errors in high-SKU parts environments.

Who Needs This

Industries We Serve
Across Southern California

Auto Parts & MRO

High SKU count, small parts, fast retrieval requirements. Kardex eliminates the parts room walk time that adds up to hours per technician per week.

Manufacturing

Lineside parts storage, tooling management, WIP components. Kardex delivers parts to the line without interrupting production flow.

Distribution & 3PL

High-velocity small item picking for e-commerce and specialty distribution. Batch picking with Kardex horizontal carousels dramatically increases pick rates.

Healthcare & Pharma

Controlled access, FIFO rotation, precise inventory tracking. Kardex is used in hospital supply rooms, biotech labs, and pharmaceutical distribution.

Electronics & Aerospace

ESD-safe configurations, cleanroom options, precise small parts management. Kardex handles sensitive components with high accuracy and traceability.

Food & Beverage

Parts and supplies storage for food production and distribution facilities. Kardex compresses the parts room footprint that food facilities typically can't afford to expand.

The Real Comparison

Static Shelving vs.
Kardex Vertical Carousel

Most parts rooms in Southern California are running static bin shelving or open rack shelving. Here's what that actually costs compared to a Kardex vertical carousel system in the same application.

Current State

Static Bin Shelving

  • Operator walks to the part β€” every pick, every time
  • Search time increases as SKU count grows
  • Picking errors from misidentified locations
  • No inventory visibility without manual counting
  • Floor space grows with inventory β€” no ceiling utilization
  • 16 standard shelving units = ~216 sq ft
Kardex Solution

Vertical Carousel

  • Part comes to the operator β€” zero walking
  • Retrieval time 2–3x faster regardless of SKU count
  • Pick-to-light guidance eliminates mispicks
  • Real-time inventory tracking built in
  • Vertical space utilized β€” same SKU count in 65 sq ft
  • Equivalent capacity = ~65 sq ft (70% space reduction)
Frequently Asked

Kardex Questions We
Hear Every Week

How much does a Kardex vertical carousel cost?
Kardex systems are configured for each specific application β€” ceiling height, SKU count, item dimensions, and software requirements all affect the final system design and price. A facility analysis is the fastest way to determine the right configuration and get accurate pricing. Call us at (951) 297-7929 or request a free analysis using the form on this page and we'll come to your facility.
How much ceiling height does a Kardex need?
Kardex Megamat vertical carousels are available in heights to match your facility's ceiling clearance. The Megamat 350 can be configured for standard warehouse ceiling heights. Kardex Shuttle VLMs are designed for taller facilities β€” typically 20 feet or more of clear ceiling height β€” to maximize the density advantage. We confirm ceiling height and available footprint during your facility assessment before any configuration is recommended.
Can Kardex integrate with our existing WMS or ERP?
Yes. Kardex Power Pick System software integrates with major WMS and ERP platforms. If you're running SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or a warehouse management system, Kardex can typically interface with it. The specific integration method depends on your system β€” this is confirmed during the assessment and proposal process.
How long does installation take?
A standard Kardex Megamat vertical carousel installation typically runs 1–3 days depending on the number of units and software configuration requirements. Kardex Shuttle VLM installations are more complex and may run 3–5 days. Both are installed with minimal disruption to surrounding operations. Lead times on equipment vary β€” standard configurations are available faster than custom builds.
Do you serve the full Southern California market?
Yes β€” Inland Empire, Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Diego. If your facility is in Southern California, we come to you for the initial assessment at no charge. Call (951) 297-7929 or use the form on this page.
